November 2007

St. Andrews, Scotland may be "the home of golf," but the game's most important competition began clear across the country in the Ayrshire region. Of course, one wouldn't dare miss playing where The Open Championship was born, nor another course considered a crowd favorite, though we found one popular layout in this links-laden region that could prove disappointing to those with the highest of standards.

From the West coast of Scotland, we journey to the East coast of Florida, where the Ginn Hammock Beach Resort boasts the state's first oceanfront golf course built in more than 70 years. We'll tell you if the Jack Nicklaus design is truly something to be proud of, how it compares to its newer, Tom Watson-designed sibling, and what's next for this fast-growing resort.

Then, it's northward to Maine, where we were drawn to Belgrade Lakes Golf Club, frankly, to see if its many accolades from well-known sources are justified...or just the result of a good public relations effort.
