In this issue:

  • Troon North and Grayhawk: Scottsdale's Desert Classics
  • Erin Hills: Does this potential US Open host venue live up to the hype?
  • Spotlight on The Balsams: A Donald Ross gem at a throwback resort

Enticed by Troon North's claims of a "new playing experience," we returned to this Scottsdale classic to see just how much things really have changed following a much touted renovation and re-routing by Tom Weiskopf. While in the neighborhood, we also dropped in on the two highly-rated courses at Grayhawk, now the host site of a PGA Tour event

It's hard to think of a golf course that's been more hyped than Erin Hills. On our most recent visit, we separated the reality from the hyperbole at this minimalistic Wisconsin layout, a top contender to host a future US Open.

Being that it is election season, it seemed only appropriate to visit The Balsams and its Donald Ross gem, the Panorama Course. Situated in Dixville Notch, the residents of this small, New Hampshire town (most of whom are employees of The Balsams), cast their ballots and become the first counted precinct in the United States. We weigh in with our own spirited debate of The Balsams.
